Check out this chart for quick reference on using my work!
AgreementBy using my artwork in any way you are agreeing to the following:
- You won't use my art in evil or illegal ways
- You'll always credit me (by name or with a link) when embedding or sharing my original art AND new things you transform my work into
- I reserve the right to revoke your usage of my name/alias, my work, or any derivatives you made, at any time
- You will get permission before using my work or derivatives for commercial purposes (money or brand attention/reputation)
- You will not transform my work with AI.
So that's the general agreement.
Sorry if I sound like a dick but I want to clearly define what I'm okay with, and I think allowing derivative work without prior permission is a pretty chill thing to announce.
By using my artwork in any capacity, transformed or non-transformed, you are agreeing to the following things:
- You will credit me in the post description or somewhere on the page the work is used, with a link back to one of my pages whenever possible.
- You will not use my work or any derivatives thereof for illegal or disallowed purposes (hate speech, bullying, AI training, etc.)
- I reserve the right to revoke your usage of my name/alias, my work, or any derivatives you made, at any time (i.e. if I find it to be offensive, distasteful, misleading, or morally objectionable).
- You will get permission before using my work or derivatives for commercial purposes (money or brand attention/reputation).
- You will not transform my work with AI.
So that's the general agreement.
Now on to specific guidelines for different usage types!
In simple terms, my original work (art that does not feature copyrighted characters) may be redistributed / reposted / shared noncommercially, with credit to me.
- You are encouraged to substantially alter, remix, adapt, or transform my artwork. Make it part of something new you create!
- You do not need my permission to transform my art and share the results. Just remember to credit me, too. :) (As a co-owner/co-creator I reserve the right to ask for it to be taken down if your transformation is illegal or evil)
Unless it's my Free-to-Use art, I'm not really happy about people just saving and reposting my work unedited. If you're going to do this for some reason, at least credit me.
Whether you transform my work or not, you must credit me under the same alias I signed the original work with (e.g. LARVAMOLT) any time the piece is posted / shared.
Sometimes I draw characters from copyrighted media -- these pieces cannot be transformed or commercialized in any way.
Hell, I'm not even allowed to sell my own fanart.
Free-to-use digital art I've made of copyrighted characters must be used on your webpages as-is, with no alterations other than display size (without cropping out or covering my signature), and credited to me in any provided text area / art description.
Technically you should also be crediting whoever owns the IP at the bottom of the page (e.g. Aishas are property of Neopets, Inc.).
Fanart is just something I do for fun, I don't accept paid commissions of copyrighted characters.
Transformed Work
If you have substantially transformed my art into something new without the use of AI, yay! You can share it noncommercially!
As long as it's not used for hate speech or another disallowed use, you are now free to post this new work anywhere you like, with credit to me under the same alias of mine the original work was associated with.
Non-transformed Work
Unaltered (original) work of mine can be used in the following non-commercial ways:
- Displaying one of my Free-To-Use animations on a webpage, unaltered, with credit.
- Printing out my art to decorate something personal (desk, scrapbook, diary, shrine, whatever).
- Tracing / copying my art for personal practice.
- Educational purposes, in a classroom setting, with credit to me and notifying me of your use. (Not on distributed promotional material for the class)
Commercial Use Without Permission
Commercial use means for money, attention, or reputation, and doing so with my work (or derivatives thereof) without my permission is never acceptable.
Commercial use without permission includes:
- Selling the digital file or paywalling the ability to view it.
- Charging money for the work to be printed on paper/shirts/merch etc.
- Entering the piece into any contest or call for submissions, even for no monetary prize.
- Including the piece in your professional or student portfolio.
Commercial Use With Permission
As a full-time artist I am certainly open to collaborative commercial use of my work, if you discuss it with me first.
Let's say you want to use one of my ink drawings as part of your T-shirt design, and it's clearly been substantially transformed where my design is just part of the background behind something cool and original of yours.
If you plan to sell these shirts, you must:
- Contact me for permission or possible discussion of royalty percentages.
- Credit me as LARVAMOLT in the item description, or anywhere you have posted your own artist name as the creator.
For one-time commercial transactions, such as a tattoo, I probably won't ask for any royalties. But if you (the artist) post photos of this tattoo, I must be credited alongside you as an artist (e.g. tattoo designed by LARVAMOLT).
I sometimes sell "adoptable" characters on Toyhouse.
These characters become yours to rename, redesign, and post however you please (excluding illegal or evil purposes) without needing to credit me. :) Just don't claim you created it.
Keep in mind, I retain the right to:
- Sell printed merch with my original design of the character.
- Post my original design on any art website or social media.
I love seeing how you guys rename and give personalities to characters I designed!
There are some circumstances in which it's never permitted to use or adapt my art, whether I own the character copyright or not:
- Hate speech about any group of people
- Bullying, attacking, embarrassing, or defaming a specific person
- Inciting violence or spreading misinformation
- Political campaigns; for or against any candidate or party
- For the training of AI or LLMs
- Anything AI-generated
- Anything that I consider fucked up
Do you have an idea for an unusual case that isn't explained here? Contact me at the email provided and we can discuss it.
It's impossible to perfectly define the "rules" for creative works, so it's very likely there are unusual cases where you aren't sure what rules on this page apply.
That's totally fine! Creativity is why I'm here!
I'm a human being just like you and I'm very open to finding amicable solutions.
Thank you for being interested in sharing or adapting my work, I hope this page helps!
I can't wait to see what you do! Tag me in your creations on social media or let me know of your plans via the email provided below.
Happy creating!
