A larva is an animal about to undergo metamorphosis, something I feel eternally on the cusp of.

At the same time, I can look back and confirm I have been many distinct things over the years. I have grown entirely new outer layers in the forms of new hobbies, new projects, new art mediums that took over my life. And then one day, the once "new thing" is behind me - shedded, separate, ready to be shared. I'm no longer in the middle of it. I can step back. It feels freeing to be done with a project, and in a way, it feels like molting.

So there's the 'deep' meaning - a paradoxical mix between a larva about to metamorphose, and a completed molting of a previous transformation, a completed life stage.

Originally, it just sounded good. Somewhere in the world is a sketchbook where I workshopped various similar names until the iterations evolved into LARVAMOLT. It sounds crazy, but the name brainstorming process felt like trying to 'remember' a secret internal name that I once knew.

When I came up with this name in 2020 I felt like my life was already over, and I might as well pass the time by dicking around. I am so glad I did. Things were only beginning.
